No Surprises Act

Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act
The federal No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022) protects patients from unexpected medical bills. Under this law, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate that explains how much your audiology care will cost before you receive services from Physicians Hearing Clinic.
What Is a Good Faith Estimate?
Healthcare providers are required to give patients who don't have insurance — or who choose not to use their insurance — a written estimate of the bill for medical items and services. This is called a Good Faith Estimate.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. For an audiology practice, this includes related costs such as hearing evaluations, hearing aid devices, fittings and programming, and follow-up visits.
- You can ask any healthcare provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- Make sure your provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your service. You can also ask for one any time you'd like an estimate before booking.
What Happens If My Bill Is Higher Than Expected?
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate so you have it for reference.
