Recently, I went to Dr. Steed for a hearing evaluation, as I was having trouble hearing with background noise and was missing words. The test was straight forward and painless. Tonya Steed, Au.D.
Owner & Audiologist
Dr. Tonya Steed, AuD, is a licensed audiologist with over 25 years of experience diagnosing and treating hearing loss in the Sarasota area. At Physician’s Hearing Clinic, she specializes in fitting personalized, prescription-based hearing aids and improving her patients’ quality of life through better communication with friends and family. Known for her empathetic approach and dedication to going the extra mile, patients can expect the highest level of hearing care from Dr. Steed.
A Sarasota native, Dr. Steed completed her Doctorate in Audiology from AT Still University, Arizona School of Health Sciences. Her patients benefit from the valuable experience she has gained working for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Bay Pines VA Hospital, and local audiology clinics throughout her career.
Dr. Steed is passionate about helping others beyond her practice. She volunteers as a Clinical Director with Special Olympics Healthy Hearing and has received volunteer of the year awards from both Sertoma of Greater Sarasota and Riverview High School. She and her husband enjoy spending time with their three children. With two daughters attending rival universities and a son with special needs, you can find them at college football games, ballroom dancing competitions, or Miracle League baseball games.
Duoné Swart, Au.D.
Audiologist
Dr Duoné Swart was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She obtained her bachelors degree in speech therapy and audiology in 2014 and her master’s degree in audiology in 2018, both from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr Swart went on to complete her Doctor of Audiology degree at A.T. Still University, Arizona School of Health Sciences in 2023, where she graduated at the top of her class. She was awarded the professional leadership award for outstanding contributions to the audiology community.
Dr. Swart started her career as an adult community service audiologist at a major regional hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she gained experience in hearing monitoring for patients undergoing TB treatment, as well as conducting hearing tests and prescribing and fitting hearing aids for her patients. Dr. Swart was also involved in various private audiology practices in South Africa and Namibia, where she conducted hearing assessments and worked with adult patients to prescribe, fit and verify hearing aids from various major hearing aid brands. Dr. Swart’s master of audiology dissertation focused on tinnitus retraining therapy and hearing aid benefits for adult patients and thus, Dr. Swart is passionate about providing tinnitus care and management for her patients.
Dr. Swart completed her audiology internship with Physician’s Hearing Clinic in Sarasota in 2024. She has practiced audiology in South Africa, Namibia and the United States of America, holding professional audiology licensure in South Africa, Florida and North Dakota. In her free time, Dr. Swart loves to relax outdoors and being a mom to a beautiful daughter.
Jordan Best, CPOP
Audiology Technician
Jordan Best is an Audiology Technician trained through the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery CPOP program. With over two years of experience in hearing healthcare, she is certified to perform hearing tests and has hands-on experience working with all major hearing aid brands.
A Sarasota native, Jordan is proud to serve her local community and recently joined Physicians Hearing Center, where she continues to expand her knowledge and skills. She is excited to further her journey in audiology while learning from Dr. Tonya Steed, Au.D., and Dr. Duone Swart, Au.D., as she helps patients improve their hearing and quality of life.
Audrey Louis, M.Ed.
Patient Care Coordinator
Audrey serves as our Care Coordinator, where she ensures each patient feels supported, informed, and cared for every step of the way. You may see her at the front desk greeting patients and families, in the back repairing hearing aids, or on the phone educating patients on the hearing aids and use of their app. Her foundation in engineering, her background in the medical field, along with her experience as a special education educator uniquely equips her to approach hearing care with both compassion and attention to detail. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Master’s degree in Education, and she’s dedicated to making the hearing care process smooth and welcoming for all. In her spare time, Audrey enjoys spending time in the sunshine, reading and with her two children.
